   By SheSpeaksTeam  Sep 28, 2011

Valentine's Day may be months away but that doesn't mean a great date can't happen tonight, this weekend or this month. Whether you're single, dating or married, it's always a good idea to have a few solid date ideas in your back pocket for the right occasion.

Dinner and a movie is a classic. But even the classics can use an update every once and a while. And, for many of us, a free hour, afternoon or  evening  is incredibly precious. So let's make sure that time is best infused with fun, excitement and a little bit of romance.

The SheSpeaks Team has put together 5 Great Date Ideas that are pretty easy to put into action. But we want to hear from YOU. What date ideas make it on your Top 10 list? What have you dreamed about? Or what great date did a friend go on that you wished someone would do for you? Let's share our Best Date Ideas and create a fantastic resource for SheSpeaks members to turn to whenever a little inspiration is needed.

And your efforts won't go unrewarded. Post a great date idea below and you'll be entered to WIN a Romantic Dinner for Two Gift Basket. A second lucky winner will receive a Picnic Backpack ($50 value) and a third winner will receive a Best Romantic Classics 100 CD.The contest will start Wednesday, September 28th and will end Tuesday, October 4th at midnight EST.

5 Date Ideas:

1) Spend an afternoon in an orchard

You probably haven't been to an orchard since you were a kid. Or if you have kids, you haven't enjoyed the experience alone. Take advantage of the fall weather and drive into the country together and pick some fresh fruit, take a hay ride, and get some apple cider. Then go home and bake a pie together!

Not sure how to find your local orchard? Try this website http://www.applejournal.com/trail.htm

2) Bring it Indoors

Sometimes after a long week, the only place you want to be is home. That's ok. Bring the romance indoors. Pick up some delicious dessert, place a blanket and pillows on the living room floor, light some candles, dim the lights and put on some relaxing music. Don't forget to turn the TV and cell phones off and you'll be transported to your own personal paradise.

3. Get your hands dirty

Take a class together! Cooking in the kitchen alone may not be that much fun, but doing it together can be a wonderful exprience. Sign up to make sushi, croissants or chocolate truffles. If you want out of the kitchen, try a pottery or dance class. The point is to get out of the house and try something new... together.

4. Stargaze

A star-lit sky can be incredibly romantic. If you live where the city lights won't get in the way, pack a picnic with wine, cheeses and sweets and find a great place to look up at the stars and enjoy the fresh air before cooler weather arrives. If you're near a city, don't worry. Visit your local planetarium. The view can be just as amazing. To find your local planetarium... http://www.planjam.com/planetarium.html

5. Build something you can play with

Take a trip to your local hobby shop and pick out a project you can work on together. Maybe build a boat, a rocket or a kite and then take it out for a spin once you're finished.

Now it's Your turn. Tell us your Great Date Ideas!

You can pretend you're tourists in your own home town. What are the popular local tourist attractions that you've never been to or haven't visited in years? Pittsburgh has the Monongahela Incline to magestic overlooks on top of Mt. Washington....

I think that for a couple with children begins with sending them to grandmas house overnight. They love going to visit her so that will be easy. My ideal date is spending time with my husband who seems to always be working. Book a dinner cruise for two. The one we love to go on is the one out of San Diego. We have dinner, drinks and dance. We enjoy the sunset and just have fun. We book a room close by and then we have the whole night to just enjoy each other and relax in the hot tub and have an intimate no rush satisfying night. It keeps the spice and energy alive. You always need to make sure we dont get neglected. As parents we are always doing for our kids and never for ourselves. Once in a while we need to be selfish too.

Being from the south, we live and breathe football. Our date night is to watch Alabama together and have what we call "Tailgaiting for Two" @ home. I will make some tailgating food, and we hang out together cheering for our team and spending time together doing what we both love. We always end up having wonderful conversations and we get some much needed cuddle time too.

When the weather allows we like to go to the driving range and hit a bucket of balls. Our municiple course has a beautiful view of the lake and it's fun to get out and do something we both enjoy. We can be competitive and trash talk or I can ask for some help with my swing if I want to get romantic. We can spend 2 hours hitting balls for $15, cheap and chic!

Sitting out on the chaise chairs around our pool with the tiki torches lit and the pool light on; soft music; have a beer or a glass of wine and just talk out under the stars!

My hubby and I unwind by the fire pit in our back yard. We're both very busy with the kids and work so once or twice a month, we have a little picnic in our own back yard. Sometimes we order take out other times we roast hot dogs. It's all in good fun and it is the best date we've ever had.

With this economy, going out isn't always an option on the wallet. When the child is at a friend's house for an overnight, hubby and I light candles and pop in a movie. We snuggle down under a blanket with popcorn and enjoy ourselves!

As parents of a special needs young adult date time is pretty much non existant for us. However one thing I love to do with my husband is take a nap together when the kids are at school. He will take a day off now and then and we try to sneak in our quiet time. We will usually go out to breakfast at a local place here and get biscuits and gravy, come home and *cuddle*, then we talk about any and everything and then I lay in his arms and we take a short nap. It is usually the best hour or so of sleep I get in months and it a short time where we are both totally relaxed. I know kind of sad that my big exciting date night is taking a nap!

My favorite date night idea is a wonderfulyl cooked meal at home, curling up on the couch with a blanket and a movie and just some amazing down time. We are always on the road and stressing to get somewhere so it is ideal to just take a breather every now and then. No phones, no computers. Just time to connect.

THE BEST DATE NIGHT EVER WOULD BE TO GO TO THE BEACH AT NIGHT; WITH NOTHING BUT BARE SKIN, A BOTTLE OF WINE, A BLANKET, AND A NICE BOTTLE OF WINE. NOT ONLY ARE YOU LIVING ON THE EDGE BUT YOU CAN RECAPTURE THOSE EARLY YEARS OF BEING SPONTANEOUS AND NOT EVEN CARING OF THE CONSEQUENCE.

Be adventureous and go somewhere that you have never been without a passport. Try a new recipe from a foreign place and intrigue your sense while you get to know one another again. Feed each other with your hands and turn the lights down low with some soulful music on. Let the kids have a sleepover somewhere else. Turn the fireplace on and lay blankets and pillows in front of it.

I love going away for a quiet weekend. We check out comparison websites for the best deals on hotels. We don't travel out of state, but more like 45 minutes away. It is just enough to get away from the familiar, yet be close to home. We book a suite and check out local things to do. Our latest trip was to a winery where we learned how wine was made and had a beautiful intimate tasting session.

Play volleyball at Brooklyn bridge park, and take walk along the waterfront park to the new Jane's Carousel which is located outdoors on the waterfront. Order some takeout to be delivered to the carousel in DUMBO and watch the boats go by while sitting between the two bridges.
