As more states legalize the use of marijuana for both recreational and medicinal purposes, celebrities who have long championed the cause are now cashing in on lucrative product endorsements. Whoopi Goldberg is the latest celeb to debut her line of marijuana and she is targeting women who suffer difficult or painful periods each month.

The New York Times reports about Goldberg’s leap into the marijuana industry where she joins other celebs like Melissa Etheridge who endorses marijuana infused wine and country legend Willie Nelson who is currently working on a brand called “Willie’s Reserve”.

Goldberg has partnered with marijuana entrepreneur Maya Elisabeth to create a line called “Whoopi & Maya” to be sold in California. The pair have designed a line of products targeted specifically to soothe women during that time of the month. They plan to sell chocolates, tinctures, creams and even bath salts. Goldberg explains that she was interested in this particular type of product because she regularly used marijuana when suffering from debilitating pain during her periods. She explains, “This was all inspired by my own experience from a lifetime of difficult periods and the fact that cannabis was literally the only thing that gave me relief.”

Goldberg also created her product to be very mild so that women can get relief and be able to go about their normal lives without feeling impaired in any way. She says, “For me, I feel like if you don’t want to get high high, this is a product specifically just to get rid of discomfort. Smoking a joint is fine, but most people can’t smoke a joint and go to work.”

What do you think of the current trend of celebrities endorsing marijuana products?

Do you think women will be interested in a line of marijuana products to alleviate menstrual discomfort?

I am not into cannabis but if it alleviates menstrual pain, helps with pain for other illnesses then why not? I think that alcohol and cannabis are equally damaging to society so how come there is so much controversy about cannabis and not alcohol?

This is absolutely fantastic! I suffer from Endometriosis and PCOS. Painful periods are just the start of it on top of surgeies. Pills are the only thing doctors prescribe and they make my health issues worse. I refuse to take pain pills. Medical marijuana has been the ONLY thing that helps my body cope with the pain (and every other symptom) and allow me to go about my day. And guess what, no one even knows. You can use medical marijuana and still be a production person in society.

Just because celebrities endorse marijuana doesn't make it less harmful. I think they need to get educated on marijuana. There are less harmful ways to decrease menstrual discomfort just visit your gynecologist without pain med's or cannabis..
