Versatile Spring Fashion For The Budget-Minded

As the warmer weather reminds us that winter is finally over, you may find yourself rifling through the closet wondering where all your spring clothes have gone.  It’s probably time to hit the stores and get some new pieces in the name of a new season.  With many of us low on cash this year it is fortunate that you don’t need to make too many purchases if you stick to a few versatile pieces.

A recent article from InStyle.com explains how you can make just a few purchases of key pieces this year to ready yourself for the spring season.  One piece on the top of their list is the trench coat which you can wear with almost any outfit and is timeless.  They suggest you wear it open with sleeves scrunched.

Another piece you can wear with more than one outfit would be a brightly colored blazer.  Top off an old outfit from last year with a new blazer and you will have a bolder, punchier look.  Wearing a blazer with an old pair of jeans and t-shirt will also be very fashionable this season.

If you need something that works for both day time and evenings, InStyle suggests you go with a khaki dress.  Purchase something with a "sexy, draped design" and don’t forget to add jewelry when transitioning it to evening wear.  Another day to night transition piece can be a sequined tank.  If you pair the tank with jeans in the day time and a skirt at night then you can pull this look off.  Stay away from extra jewelry when wearing a sequined tank, since you will already be sparkly enough.

Here’s the complete list of key pieces to purchase this spring.

What do you think of the versatile spring pieces InStyle suggests for the new season?

Do you have any must-have pieces you feel work with anything in the spring?

Great ideas. I would like to add that a great bag is always a must when trying to add to your outfit. Also accessorize! Just changing up your accessories and bag can in all honesty change the way your outfit looks.

Remember all basics may be brought up to date each year with accessories. Purchase a trendy new pair of shoes or handbag for the season. It makes your spirits lift and your financial resources stay low while your outfit is refreshed.

I love this idea. I do this all the time add new pieces with old pieces. This is a great way of updating my wardrobe with out buying a whole new wardrobe. Mix-and-match is a wonderful way of updating outdated pieces.

Good ideas, but I must add that a good pair of black pants is must. One that you dress up or down. I am bad because I buy too many clothes that I go way over what the basic needs are!

Great ideas. A few take me back to the 80's, like the bright blazer and old jeans... I have a great all leather woven purse that looks a little like straw, works great from Spring into Summer. A great smile is a wonder accessory to wear all year round too.

Love the blazer, jean and tee shirt idea - I think dark jeans and a statement necklace will look nice.

I love these ideas! in fact, I recently bought an adorable purple lightweight blazer and it is great with jeans, a skirt or even over a dress! The dressy tanks are a good idea, I will have to try that! I am not so keen on the khaki dress; I was always told that khaki color washes you out....maybe that's not true? I still love a great pair of summery heels to go with jeans or anything else!
