Twitter Users Make the Day of a Little Girl With Autism Who Grew Out of Her Favorite Dress

Parents of kids with special needs may relate to a recent social media post that went viral over a specific dress that one little girl just doesn’t want to do without. A friend of parents with an autistic daughter reached out to her community for a little help in finding an item of clothing that is no longer being made, but happens to be an important part of this child’s life.

CBS News reports about the overwhelming support a family received all because of a request from a friend. Deborah Price reached out to followers on Twitter for a little help finding a dress that Kate Bell’s autistic daughter, Elise, is very attached to, but has unfortunately grown out of. Price tweeted a photo of the dress and wrote, “Friend's autistic daughter only wears this dress. Don't judge. Sometimes people can't cope with certain stuff &it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things does it. Question is has anyone got this @nextofficial dress from 3yrs ago in age 11plus & if so can we buy them off you?” 

And rather than judgement, Twitter lit up with users joining the quest for the dress (a little cotton sleeveless with a rainbow heart in the middle). Several people chimed in saying they had the dress in one size larger, another user offered to design something similar by hand, and the company that made the dress reached out to see if there is anything they can do.

Even those who couldn’t help find the dress were quick to chime in to offer support and share the ways they can relate to the issue. One parent tweeted, “I have 4 autistic kids, I absolutely know the horror of growing/wearing out favored clothes. Good luck with the search.” And another cheered them on writing, “Great that the good people in the universe got together to make this happen.”

In the end, Elise will get to keep on wearing her favorite dress a little longer because of a girl named Mila who asked her mom if she could send her dress to Elise. Price shared the good news on Twitter and thanked all of those who helped out a stranger. Price tweeted, “I told the mum to tell Mila how kind she is, she's given my friend some breathing space and made her daughter's day too. Not only that but she's said I can share this story because I think it totally restores your faith in human nature.”
