Do you know this is Universal Women's Week ?

International Women’s Day celebrates women who have taken significant steps into a field dominated by men. Someone being recognized this year is Kim Campbell, Canada’s first female prime minister.  The Oscars had a huge accomplishment with Kathryn Bigelow being the first woman to win best director.  Who would be someone you would celebrate on this holiday?  Please tell us.  We want to know.

I used to live in Russia, where International Women's Day is a huge, huge holiday. Flowers, candy, lovely surprises. Too bad we don't celebrate it as much here in the States!

Tex, I agree. I have been reading several articles today by women who are saddened by the lack of enthusiasm and celebration today. I believe women should unite and network every day, but especially today, and this month!

I like the idea for a celebration for women. It reminds me of the sixties.

I wish we celebrated - we deserve it! Think about the last time you did something strictly for yourself, to indulge your feminine side. I got a manicure - a year and a half ago! I'm going out for one this week.

I think that celebrating women in general and all that we have evolved into and overcome over the years is a great idea. To pinpoint one or two women who have successfully stepped into fields dominated by men is difficult but seeing more and more female CEO's of companies and more women in politics is a great thing.

Never heard of such a day and it is not listed on any of my calendars. I agree with the others that it should be adopted over here as a special day.
