Semenya is now going through further gender tests before officials decide if they should strip her of her medals and her right to run as a woman. The official final results have not yet been revealed, but an article from theAFP quotes Chuene responding to questions about the pending gender tests. Chuene says, "No one has seen the reports. We have learnt in the media that she is a hermaphrodite."

One mother, Lori Pierce, from Columbus, Miss. allowed her eager 10-year-old son to walk to a nearby soccer practice. Several people who saw the boy walking reportedly called 911 before a police officer arrived and drove the boy the rest of the way to his practice. Pierce was later reprimanded by the officer for allowing her son to walk alone.

More reports are now coming out about how this nightmare could have ended earlier. Three years ago in 2006 someone called 911 to tip off the police that there was a mysterious woman and two children living in tents in Garrido's backyard. When an officer went to check it out, he only spoke with Garrido, a registered sex offender, briefly in his front yard and did not investigate the rest of the property leaving Dugard and her daughters to endure three more years of captivity.
